Host and producer Hank Stampfl joins host Robin Milling to talk about his sexy cabaret show Speakeasy Moderne playing monthly in New York at Stage 72. Hank tells Robin the genesis of the show began at a small bistro which grew into its current offering featuring sexily clad dancers with bodies to die for, torch song singers, and a nasty innocence that teases in a very tasteful way. Its a mix of the old with the new where you walk into the room and feel like youve been transported back into the 30s, but then theres a voluptuous DJ on stage spinning old school jams from a laptop. Hank is a Broadway baby who found a particular love for Cabaret, featuring the opening number Willkommen, and Mein Heir in the show choreographed by Kim Schafer. The two met in college and their mutual love for live theater bonded them. Hanks tells Robin Speakeasy Moderne is Broadway meets Burlesque featuring such songs as Golden Eye sung sultrily by guest vocalist Dina Fanai with a sexy shadow dancer accompanying her. Theres a full-on striptease but there have been pastie mishaps where there was more tease than strip! The show must go on and whenever mistakes happen Hank says the company happily roll with the punches. Hank hopes to take Speakeasy Moderne on the road and is happy to do house parties so anyone celebrating a milestone birthday or even a wedding are Willkommen!
